Sports club case study: more members through a new website
A new web presence for a Dortmund martial arts club, built to carry people through to signing up rather than only informing them.
Budokan Dortmund e.V. is a long-established martial arts club based in Dortmund. The club offers courses in several martial arts, among them karate, judo, ju-jutsu and taekwondo. With more than 500 members it plays a significant part in the sporting life of the city.
The challenge
The website of Budokan Dortmund e.V. had aged and no longer met current expectations. It was:
- Not responsive: the site was not built for mobile devices and was therefore hard to use on phones and tablets.
- Not easy to use: the site was not intuitive and the information was hard to find. That made it considerably harder for interested people to become members.
- Not findable: the site was not built for search engines and could therefore not easily be found by potential members.
The solution
Together with Budokan Dortmund e.V. we developed a new website. It is built on the open source content management system Drupal and offers a range of new capabilities, among them:
- Responsive design: the new site works at every screen size.
- Ease of use: the new site is intuitive and the information is easy to find.
- Search engine optimisation: the new site is built to be found by potential members.
Results
The new website of Budokan Dortmund e.V. was taken up well by members and prospective members alike, and led to a clear increase in course registrations.
