About us

Our story begins in the late nineties, when Erhan, the eldest of the Yekta siblings, discovered the internet and infected the rest of us with his enthusiasm.

We started building our own projects, and the first clients came. The users were happy, the clients were happy, and so were we. Until the first cyber attacks arrived, with serious consequences. We had put so much time and passion into those projects that the disappointment was correspondingly large. We never wanted to feel like that again.

That is where our new mission came from: not only to be digitally successful, but also secure. In the early 2000s cybersecurity had not yet reached the mainstream, so knowledge was hard to come by. We taught ourselves and shared what we learned with the community in trade journals, so that others could protect themselves too.

Our enthusiasm for the digital world held, and we extended what we knew at TU Dortmund, FH Dortmund and Ruhr University Bochum. In 2015 we pooled our efforts and founded what is today Yekta IT GmbH.

Since then we have helped a great many companies, among them groups operating critical infrastructure, to strengthen their cybersecurity. In the FINESSE joint project we worked on OT security until December 2025 with partners from rail, the automotive industry and research, building security operations centres for the connected vehicles of tomorrow. With VATT&EK we recently published a framework with the potential to become the standard for automotive and rail security. What we know benefits international groups and local mid-sized companies alike.

At our core we combine the traditional values of a family business, fairness, trust and personal commitment, with an appetite for innovation and excellence. Today the team is around fifteen people. Some of them carry the surname Yekta; all of them are part of the Yekta IT family.
